Summary of Innovation

RoboSense, founded in 2014, is a global leader in LiDAR-based perception systems. The company leverages its advanced hardware and software technology, exceptional manufacturing capabilities, rigorous testing by global automakers, and robust validation systems to deliver high-quality LiDAR solutions. RoboSense is the world’s first LiDAR company to achieve mass production of its automotive-grade solid-state LiDAR.

This year, RoboSense announced its new M2 sensor - the ultimate cost-effective mid-range LiDAR. An iteration of the previous-generation M1 and M1 Plus, the M2 sensor leverages the M Platform’s proprietary 2D scanning technology and MEMS chips -- developed in-house -- to achieve a range of 200m at 10% reflectivity. Equipped with the "gaze function," which concentrates the scanning frequency in the area directly in front of the vehicle, the sensor offers resolution capabilities of 0.1° x 0.1° in its region of interest (ROI). The M2 sensor delivers improved range and resolution over its predecessors, advancing object detection capabilities for safe, intelligent driving systems. The upgraded M2 maintains the same interface and design as the M1/M1 Plus, making the switch seamless for customers without costly redesign or project development delays. It is developed with more than 90% of the same components as the M1 Plus and shares the same technology platform and modular design, driving down costs and improving performance over each iteration.

Innovation Statement

The Foundation for Traffic Safety estimates that advanced driver-assistance systems for vehicle safety could prevent approximately 40% of all passenger-vehicle crashes and 29% of all deaths in crashes that involve passenger vehicles. RoboSense is improving advanced driver assistance and autonomous driving systems by delivering the M2, a cost-effective, high-performance LiDAR sensor that OEMs can use now. The M2 captures precise, high-resolution 3D data to detect roadway objects at up to 200m in low-light and nighttime lighting conditions, advancing the vehicle's capability of safely navigating a range of driving scenarios, including urban environments, winding roads, highways, and parking.

Applicability

MODEX provides attendees a look into the future; as a company leading the charge in the global adoption of LiDAR technologies, we're providing an inside look into how RoboSense is making this a reality -- through innovation and mass manufacturing -- and how LiDAR technology, like the M2, can be leveraged to improve safety and efficiency, from robotics to automotive/ADAS applications.
