Summary of Innovation

Nyobolt’s breakthrough Li-ion battery is capable of fully recharging from 0 to 100% in 5 minutes or less at charge speeds not previously possible. This game-changing capability enables Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMRs) to operate almost continuously in all warehouse environments – hot, ambient, refrigerated, and freezer – guaranteeing AMR performance is never limited. Furthermore, fast charge notably saves warehouse space by reducing the requirement for dedicated charging stations or rooms and could potentially enable material handling systems to drastically reduce costs by employing fewer robots. These batteries, which have energy densities significantly higher than lead acid batteries, can fast charge over several thousands of full charge-discharge cycles. This longevity is at least ten times what can be achieved with regular Li-ion batteries and equates to a significant decrease in the overall total cost of ownership during the life of the AMR. Additionally, the performance characteristics of this battery eliminate the need for battery replacements and other sophisticated components that enable battery swaps.

Nyobolt’s battery delivers enhanced safety through high power cell design that circumvents common failure modes of conventional LFP or NMC batteries like lithium plating and through an advanced Battery Management System (BMS) with an industry-leading 99% accuracy to continuously track State-of-Charge (SoC) and State-of-Health (SoH) and predict the energy available at a required power level. Our batteries also provide a practical solution in terms of operational readiness and scalability as a drop-in replacement for other battery technologies and by leveraging existing charging frameworks, unlike hydrogen fuel cells which require substantial investment for technology adoption, infrastructure modifications and safety precautions.

Applicability

Nyobolt’s battery reduces operational costs for material handling systems by maximizing AMR productivity or the number of picks per an hour through decreasing hours out-of-service on a charger to less than 5-minutes while simultaneously cycling over several thousands of charge-discharge cycles, in some instances equating to 5 to 10 years of nearly continuous operation.
