As material handling continues to move towards autonomous robots and vehicles, there is still a need to interface these solutions with conveyor systems. Automated and autonomous vehicles are capable of being mobile conveyors to bridge the gap between fixed infrastructure and the flexible needs of the market. Conveyor systems of various types can be mounted on autonomous and automated vehicles. This increases the complexity of the vehicles and the systems that they interface requiring a holistic view of the total solution. Some of the various factors that need to be considered are the conveyor interface protocols, mechanical and electrical design of the transfer points, order management software, traffic management software, navigational and travel spaces, and the pedestrian and operator areas.
The relationship and interaction between the following:
- AMRs & AGVs
- Fixed & Flexible Conveyors
- Sortation Systems
