What You Will Learn

Pack and Ship automation matched to the DC’s order shipment profiles can increase productivity throughput by 30 to 70% or more. This presentation will review practices to eliminate wasted manual touches, and review technologies that DC’s can incorporate into packing operations to increase ergonomics and order accuracy, while eliminating bottlenecks and increasing shipping efficiencies. Process improvement steps will be reviewed with examples of pack automation technologies, and KPI gains obtained. Emphasis will be placed on reducing manual labor and increasing carton per minute throughput. Pack automation conveyor systems and technologies to be reviewed include: In-line weigh, dimensional and vision audit, document print and insert, void fill ergonomics, semi-automatic and automated taper/sealing, automated print and apply labeling, manifesting, and fluid load for UPS, FedEx, USPS, and LTL shipments.

Key Takeaways

1. Reduce order fulfillment costs while boosting throughput – automation technologies that lower labor costs and improve customer service.
2. Operational productivity – balancing pack and ship with order picking reduces bottlenecks and increases pack and ship productivity while lowering the order delivery time window.
