This position resides in the ifm prover USA manufacturing facility which manufactures temperature and optical sensor products, along with cable assemblies. The facility will soon be manufacturing flow sensor products too. This manufacturing engineering role is key to the greater ifm’s manufacturing success in the United States.
In this role, you will be the contact point between the Supply Chain department and the Research and Development/New Product Development department. To succeed as the Research and Development Buyer, you will need to be able to communicate intelligently and effectively with engineers as well as suppliers. This position will require an individual who has a basic understanding of engineering terminology and design; also, very strong organization skills. Below are further position descriptions:
Reports to Logistics Manager and closely collaborates with Research and Development Team.
Assists with strategic supplier selection, develops Requests for Quotes (RFQ’s) and order placement.
Issues Purchase Orders for developmental parts [for sensors and/or related products].
Ensures that parts delivery schedule supports design project deadlines and holds suppliers accountable.
Creates solicitations and contracts; negotiates terms, conditions and pricing.
Ensures that the appropriate amount of components and materials are on hand to meet production requirements; track and resolve material shortages.
Bachelor’s degree preferred in supply chain, technical field, or general business.
Solid mechanical aptitude.
Ability to operate in a free thinking environment
Proven track record of being assertive and self-motivated.
Ability to read and understand basic data on CAD drawings.
Proficient in data management and a strong attention to detail.
Previous experience working closely with engineers as part of a technical team would be an advantage.
3 or more years of procurement experience with machined metal components preferred.
Experience with machining metal (stainless steel) parts and manufacturing procedures a plus
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Working knowledge of SAP, MRP, Lean Concepts, R&D, and batch prototype/production environments preferred.
